Final Poster Design

Here is my final poster design for GFSmith Paper celebrating their 100 year anniversary and promoting the exhibition.

I am pleased with the outcome of my poster and how it printed and feel it does suit and help promote 100 years. I was influenced by Daniel Gordan's black and white typeography work and like how the contrast of colours worked so decided to use a similar idea in my design.

Research On Type

Nicolas Girard is a typography artist from Toronto Canada i like his work becuase of the use of neon colours he uses that stand out and contrast well with the black background.

Daniel Gordan has worked with many clients such as Nike, Flip Skateboards and Carrot Clothing i espicially like his work because of his use of black and white in his designs.

In my final design i am going to stick to simple contrasting colours like these.

Image For My Poster

I decided to design and make an aesthetically pleasing and interesting looking paper sculpture to photograph and put on my final poster design. I took photos from all types of angles and found that these two were the most effective.

This photo below was the one i choose to use in the end and think looks effective with my poster design.

GFSmith Paper

I am designing a poster for the company GFSmith Paper to help promote their 100 year anniversary.

GFSmith have been trading as specialty paper merchants from their warehousing and manufacturing base in Hull, East Yorkshire for over 100 years.

GFSmith source, develop & manufacture some of the most unusual papers for the Graphics and Printing Industries, promoting new papers for a wide range of applications.

These range from simple business cards, to letterheads, folders, promotional brochures, report & accounts, greetings cards & packaging. Indeed wherever there is a need for paper there is a need for GFSmith.

Coming up with my Final Design

I drew out several design idea's for my final paper sculpture however decided to use and try this one below. i drew out a 3d and a 2d possible design and decided to go wit the 3d one in the end.

This is a quick drawing of how i planned to  make it and how i wanted the final result to look like.

Design Ideas

Here are some of my hand drawn design idea's done in my sketch book, these were my earlier designs and were mainly inspired from nature such as waves, trees and waves.

Primary Research

I walked around sheffield looking for idea's and came across several objects and sculptures that had an interesting texture that i could use in my designs.

Inspiration for Final Design

I decided to look at chains and links and this inspired me in my final design.

I looked at the way they are attached and the way they hang and sit together.

Experimenting with paper

I looked into sand and how nature leaves a pattern in it from either the wind or sea and thought the ripples could look effective.

These are my designs i created by scoring the paper and folding in ways inspired by the shapes in the sand.

Here i cut out circles and expermerimnted with different idea's to attach them together.
